Computing

"A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and
creativity to understand and change the world. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate at a level suitable to become active participants in a digital world."
(National Curriculum, 2014).

To put it short... KIDS LOVE COMPUTERS! Whether it be PCs, Macs, iPads, Chromebooks, phones, PlayStations or XBoxs, we have found that the children are engaged and enthusiastic about learning. At Culcheth, we work hard to ensure that the curriculum and resources are up-to-date to make sure that the children learn skills that are applicable to the real world. Consequently, we have made heavy investment to ensure we have computers,iPads, Chromebooks and other accessories to deliver a high-impact curriculum.

Throughout the school, the children learn topics such as making and debugging computer games and Apps; taking and editing photographs; creating movies trailers, telling digital stories; writing and updating Blogs and researching topics using the internet. We have created an individualised curriculum so that the children are engaged and interested in the subject and are also able to apply this out of school.

Additionally, we understand that E-Safety is essential in today's climate and the subject of staying safe on-line is taught in every year. If you do want further information, please visit the Think You Know website.

We also know that some of the above may seem confusing. Therefore, some parents may find it useful to read the article from the Guardian website about the new Computing curriculum. Click here to see this
